How to tell whether a bundle is worth it
The arithmetic is simple and almost nobody does it. Here it is, with the question most people get wrong.

The honest way to think about a bundle
A bundle is good value when it replaces things you are already paying for, and poor value when it adds a charge on top of them. That is the whole of it, and it is worth ten minutes before a subscription rather than six months afterwards.
Do the arithmetic before the trial ends
Write down what you currently pay every month for watching, listening, reading and playing. Then ask, honestly, which of those you would actually cancel if you had this instead.
The trap is counting a library as a saving when you would not really give up the service you already use for it. Somebody who keeps their existing music subscription because they prefer it has six libraries here, not seven, and should judge the price on six.
A subscription you forget is the expensive one
At $39.95 a month, a membership left running for a year that you stopped using in February costs more than most people would knowingly spend on anything they had thought about. This is how subscription businesses work generally, not this one in particular, and the defence is mechanical rather than moral:
- Put a recurring reminder in your calendar to look at what you are subscribed to.
- Read a card statement properly once a quarter rather than glancing at it.
- When you notice you have not opened something in two months, cancel it. You can always come back, and there is no penalty for having left.
The three-day version of the same question
Three days is short, but it is enough for the only question that matters: how many of the seven would you come back to next week?
- If the answer is four or more, the arithmetic is probably fine.
- If the answer is one, you are paying a bundle price for a single-library service, and there is almost certainly a cheaper way to get that one thing.
- If the answer is none, cancel before the third day ends. That is what the trial is for, and nobody thinks less of you for using it exactly as intended.
